Yesterday, around a thousand people attended a rally at Hyde Park to protest against the eviction of the LGBTQIA+ theatre, Divine Playhouse.
The eviction by billionaire developers and owners, Redevelop, took place after right-wing Christian groups, Fit for the Kingdom and the Prodigal Sons, campaigned against the theatre being sited at a former church building on Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD, which was deconsecrated in the 1930s.
Speakers at yesterday’s rally called for push-back against discrimination against LGBTQIA+ communities and for more safe spaces for queer performances and art. The rally ended with music, singing and dancing.
