This week’s rally included a memorial for Uncle Khaled Nabhan who was killed two weeks ago in Gaza. He was well known for a social media post in which he cradled his slain 5-year old granddaughter in his arms, describing her as “the soul of my soul”.
Also featured were three 50 meter banners registering 35,000 names, just a portion of those Palestinians killed so far in Gaza by Israeli forces.

Rally Against Islamophobic Attack
Photographs from this morning’s rally at Bankstown police Station, in south west Sydney, Darug Land.
Last week, Mariam, a Palestinian woman, and her young daughter were verbally attacked and threatened with physical harm in an Islamophobic attack at KMart in Bankstown shopping centre. The attack was recorded on social media. Mariam has claimed that she called police, who failed to respond, and instead started harassing her family and acquaintances.
This morning’s rally was held to support Mariam and demand that police take immediate and appropriate action. Speakers brought attention to the differences of how authorities and main stream media respond to Islamophobic incidents in comparison to anti-Semetic and anti-Zionist incidents.
After the rally, Mariam went into the police station to lodge an official complaint.

Protect Healthcare Workers in Gaza Rally
Photographs from Friday evening’s rally at Sydney Town Hall, Australia, Gadigal Land, protesting against the targeting of healthcare workers in Gaza by Israeli armed forces. In pouring rain, doctors, nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals spoke out against the ongoing violence being perpetrated against their colleagues across Palestine, where more than 45,000 people have been killed.
Friday’s rally was organised by Amnesty International.

Hikoi mo te Tiriti on Gadigal Land
Yesterday, hundreds of people marched through Sydney’s city centre on Gadigal Land as part of the Toitū Te Tiriti (Honour the Treaty), a movement sweeping through Aotearoa, protesting against the controversial Treaty Principles Bill, a piece of legislation being brought before New Zealand’s parliament that attempts to undermine the Treaty of Waitangi. The treaty is the foundation document of relations between Māori and Pākehā (non-Māori) people.
Since the 10th of November, thousands of people have been marching as part of the Hikoi mo te Tiriti (March for the Treaty) from the north of Aotearoa, aiming to descend on New Zealand’s Parliament in Wellington on the 19th of November to protest the Bill.
Yesterday’s Hikoi mo te Tiriti in Sydney on Gadigal Land started at Martin Place before marching to the New Zealand Consulate-General in Bond Street, where speeches were made and hakas performed. The hikoi then moved to Hyde Park.

Day 21 at the Sydney Basin Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Victoria Park on Gadigal Land consisted of some T-Shirt printing, fire making, cooking, song and some portraits.

Sydney Basin Aboriginal Tent Embassy Set Up

The Embassy was initially set up along the eastern side of the park adjacent to City Road in response to the visit by the British and Australian monarchs, Charles and Camilla. After 3 days, the camp, including the sacred fire, was moved to the western side of the park, where previous Aboriginal Tent Embassies have been located.
The Embassy is demanding sovereignty for First Nations peoples, a stop to genocide and land back.

Stop Aboriginal Deaths In Custody Rally - Long Bay Jail
On Sunday, around 150 people rallied at Long Bay Jail, Matraville, on Bidjigal Land, to protest against ongoing Aboriginal deaths in custody.
Since the report of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was handed down in 1991, at least 563 First Nations people have died in custody.
The rally was called by Paul Silva, nephew of Dunghutti man, David Dungay Jnr, who was killed in 2015, when several correctional officers stormed his cell at Long Bay Jail after he refused to stop eating a packet of biscuits. After being set upon by officers, he was forcibly injected with a sedative. His last words were, “I can’t breathe”. He was pronounced dead soon after, at the age of just 29.
Also present were the families of Mark Mason Snr and Aubrey Donahue, two Aboriginal men who were also killed while in police custody.
First Nations people in Australia are considered the most incarcerated people on Earth.
Judy Deacon, the mother of Jesse Deacon, a white man who was shot by NSW police during a mental health episode last year, also spoke.
